Previously exhibited at institutions including the National Art Museum of China and the
Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center, the Suzhou embroidery work
Aristocratic Ladies Playing Cuju draws inspiration from a renowned painting by Du
Jin, a
Ming dynasty artist. Executed with the classic double-sided embroidery technique, the
work depicts an elegant scene of Chinese women playing cuju in a garden during the Ming
dynasty.
Created using the most classical and refined flat stitch techniques of Suzhou
embroidery, the piece features stitches that are both archaic and delicate. The
composition is graceful and refined, with lines that are concise yet rounded, and colors
that are fluid and vivid. Through the expressive use of needle and thread, every detail
of the scene is rendered with remarkable vitality. The graceful, light, and flowing
movements of the figures are vividly captured, offering a compelling reflection of the
historical spirit of the era and the distinctive characteristics of its cultural
heritage.
