As the only Chinese exhibitor in the CRAFT zone of the world's leading home décor and design fair, Yao Silk occupied a prime, red-carpet center position. The booth presented Suzhou embroidery works such as Jade Hall Egrets and Quiet Window, Faint Shadows, alongside innovative products spanning home décor, accessories, and watches. A leading London-based collecting institution described the exhibition as “the most rewarding,” while a top Swiss watch design house proactively initiated collaboration talks.

Shanghai (7th China International Import Expo)

The domestic debut of Suzhou embroidery haute jewelry pieces Wall of Love and The Dream of a Butterfly attracted significant interest, with a French auction house expressing intent to consign. Displayed concurrently was Kapok Welcoming Spring, a Suzhou embroidery work created by Yao Jianping’s team to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Executed in double-sided three-dimensional embroidery, the work took 15 months and over 100 million stitches, integrating kapok blossoms with motifs such as the Red Boat and Tiananmen.

Shanghai Fashion Week

Yao Jianping served as the intangible cultural heritage Suzhou embroidery consultant for SHI CONG JIN’s SS25 collection Blooming with Ease. Inspired by Qiu Ying’s Ming-dynasty painting The Flower Deities, the collection integrated Suzhou embroidered florals into couture gowns. French lace formed the base of the skirts, while heritage velvet flowers cascaded from waist to hem, achieving a cross-cultural fusion of “Suzhou embroidery + velvet flowers + French lace.” The works were praised as “wearable works of art.”

With 40 years devoted to Suzhou embroidery, Yao Jianping pioneered the Fusion Embroidery Style. Her works have been collected twice by Buckingham Palace and have won China’s highest folk arts honor, the Mountain Flower Award, four times.

Carrousel du Louvre, Paris (World Cultural Heritage Expo)

In collaboration with French jewelry designer Mira Ming, Yao Silk unveiled Suzhou embroidery haute jewelry, including the China–France diplomatic relations 60th anniversary collector’s piece Wall of Love necklace and the Van Gogh–inspired Dancing Butterflies amid Floral Shadows brooch. French First Lady Brigitte Macron and Minister of Culture Rachida Dati attended, and the exhibition’s main visual identity prominently featured Yao Silk elements.

The Wall of Love necklace draws inspiration from Paris’s Love Wall, rendering ceramic tiles in iridescent blue Suzhou embroidery and concealing the initial “A” for “Amour” at its center. The Dancing Butterflies amid Floral Shadows brooch recreates Almond Blossom in Suzhou embroidery, crafted in titanium and accented with natural diamonds.

Invited to participate in the market events of the 3rd Suzhou Jinji Lake Sino–French Cultural and Arts Week (2024), Yao Silk presented Suzhou embroidery watches Butterfly Attire and Auspicious Moments, as well as embroidered jewelry pieces Full Moon and Blessings and Prosperity. Eric Lejoindre, Mayor of Paris’s 18th arrondissement, visited for exchanges and expressed interest in promoting collaboration between Paris’s 18th arrondissement and Suzhou Industrial Park in the field of intangible cultural heritage.

Les Invalides Exhibition Center, Paris, France

At the Chinese art exhibition “From Beijing to Paris—Chinese and French Artists on the Olympic Journey,” Yao Jianping’s Suzhou embroidery work Lotus Dew Whispers was presented. Co-created by Yao Jianping and painter Zhong Wengang, the piece employs the Fusion Embroidery Style to convey the spirit of pure lotus blossoms. Dewdrops are rendered through the interplay of stitches and light, achieving a crystalline texture and expressing the concept of cultural integration between East and West.

Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris ("All Things Renewed—Chinese Intangible Heritage and Contemporary Design")

The Suzhou embroidery version of Mona Lisa, created by Yao Jianping in 2000, drew widespread attention, with French actress Sophie Marceau among those who stopped to admire it. The work won the Mountain Flower Award in 2001 and exemplifies the dialogue and mutual appreciation between Eastern and Western cultures.

China Grand Canal Museum

A total of 62 sets of Suzhou embroidery works from the Embroidery Art of Yao Jianping Gallery and the Suzhou Museum were exhibited, organized into three sections: “Return—Embroidery Born of Nature” (animal embroidery, archaic-style embroidery, still lifes); “Renewal—Embroidery with the Times” (Fusion Embroidery Style and thematic works); and “Reconstruction—Borderless Suzhou Embroidery” (embroidered home décor and game IP collaborations). The exhibition presents a 2,000-year history of coexistence between Suzhou embroidery and the Grand Canal.

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore ("Meet in the Lion City, Encounter Suzhou" Cultural Week)

The Yao Silk exhibition area attracted guests including Cao Zhongming, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, and Lim Huay Ching, Deputy Secretary of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry. Works by Yao Jianping and Suzhou embroidery lifestyle products were displayed. The event formed part of the 2024 China–ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges, supporting cooperation between Suzhou and Singapore.

Louvre Museum, Paris (World Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition)

Suzhou embroidery aesthetic works were exhibited alongside the 2023 Autumn/Winter haute couture collaboration with La Koradior. Featuring the butterfly orchid as a motif, the couture required 2,160 hours of embroidery, integrating traditional fine flat stitching with contemporary techniques. The work When the Embroidery Cloth Is Cut Away employs double-sided embroidery to explore the essence of craft, prompting reflection among visitors.
