After completing her academic studies, Yao Lan returned to the forefront of heritage practice. She brought together graduates from leading art academies across China to engage in original embroidery creation, research, and design. Under her leadership, the team has successfully completed multiple national gift design projects and developed hundreds of innovative Suzhou embroidery products. She is dedicated to integrating intangible cultural heritage into everyday life through design, while steadfastly upholding handcraftsmanship and original creation.

Holding a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in the United Kingdom, Yao Zhuo employs the ancient techniques of Suzhou embroidery as her primary artistic medium, viewing the traces of needle and thread as carriers of life and time. Her work deeply examines the homogenization and marginalization of folk culture and art forms, while continuously seeking to explore and transcend the boundaries between art and craft.

Her works are included in the collections of the China National Silk Museum and the China Arts and Crafts Museum, and are regularly exhibited at major art institutions and exhibitions both in China and internationally, including the National Art Museum of China, the Suzhou Museum, the Louvre Museum in France, London Craft Week, and the ReA Art Fair in Milan, Italy. In 2019, her work Ink Resonance was selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a state gift and was presented by the Chinese President to Madame Brigitte Macron during a state visit to France.
